Who we are

PECA – Women & Children’s foundation

Our Story

PECA Women and Children’s Foundation was founded with a clear aim, and it remains the same todate: To ensure that women and child rights are respected and recognized in Uganda. We are working towards finding a holistic solution to the root causes that lead to marginalization and abuse of women and children.

BACKGROUND

PECA-Women & children’s Foundation (PECA) is an implementing Agency which was founded in 2016 by a group of social and community development workers, medics and veterinarians  with the aim of finding a holistic solution to the root causes of marginalization and abuse of children and women.

 It formalized its registration in 2017 as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in the Districts of  Iganga and Luuka (Department of Community Based Service). The activities then included community sensitizations on women and child related issues in the communities on how they can overcome barriers that have kept them impoverished and abused.

Having realised the demand for its services, it was resolved in a members meeting that PECA- Foundation be registered at the National level. Subsequently it got registered at national level

 Vision, Mission and core values

Vision: A nation where the rights of women and Children are upheld and have equal access to opportunities.

 Mission: To work with and through Women, Children & other vulnerable people to maximize their full potential in life through;

  • Facilitating access to quality education, Socio – economic empowerment, advocacy and other Rights using the Rights Based Approach (RBA).

CORE OBJECTIVE:

 To enhance the capacities of women, children and other vulnerable persons to change the unequal power relations for improved wellbeing.

Our approaches

INTEGRATED APPROACH: Various lines of action interlink with or affect other interventions, human rights, gender, poverty, education including of Hiv and Aids with its effects and many other interventions are not addressed separately but are considered integral parts of all lines of action taken in any given intervention

EMPOWERMENT APPROACHES: this emphases building capacity and competence of our Duty bearers (Women & Children) to achieve results for themselves. The aim is for duty bearers to take as much control as they can of the activities as PECA plays a facilitation role of just equipping them with the necessary knowledge, skills and any other necessary.

RIGHTS-BASED APPROACH: In this approach, we look at developments objectives from a human rights angle. For example the right to education, the right to participation, rights awareness rising is key for both the rights holder and duty bearers. This helps to focus on structural inequities which are the root causes of unequal gender relations and child abuse .some of them are rooted in the African cultures.
